Pathway to Deakin University
For the past thirteen years MIBT has been working in partnership with Deakin University to provide the leading pathway program in Australia. As university places become increasingly competitive it is reassuring to know that there is another alternative for entry into university.
MIBT offers pathways to undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Pathway to Undergraduate Levels
MIBT’s pathway to undergraduate courses caters for both Australian and International students who:
- have not achieved the entrance score they were expecting for direct entry into the university of their choice.
- want a course that is equivalent to a first year university bachelor degree.
- need to bridge the gap between previous study and university.
- are keen to study at a smaller institute that offers small group teaching and individual attention.
- are returning to studies.
Students may start their pathway to university through our Certificate and Diploma courses (see diagram below).
Diploma courses are offered in association with Deakin University and comprise the first year units of the relevant Deakin University undergraduate degree. On successful completion of a Diploma and meeting university academic entrance criteria, students are eligible for entry to second year of the relevant Deakin University undergraduate degree.
Students who complete a Diploma are also eligible to seek advanced standing in relevant degree programs at other Australian Universities.
Enter second year university by following the MIBT pathway:

Pathway to Postgraduate Levels
MIBT’s pathway to postgraduate courses is available through the Deakin University Postgraduate Qualifying Programs (PQP). The PQP's are only available to International students and they are designed to be a bridging program for students whose undergraduate qualifications do not meet the academic and/or English requirements for entry into relevant Masters programs at Deakin University.
See Courses for more information.
A Message from the Vice-Chancellor - Deakin University
Deakin University and the Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology (MIBT) have been in partnership since MIBT's foundation in 1996. Deakin University entered the partnership to provide alternative pathways to Deakin University.
Throughout its history, Deakin University has emphasised relevance, innovation and responsiveness in all aspects of its work. The University's courses are designed with the needs of employers in mind; indeed, potential employers are involved in the planning of all Deakin's courses.
There is also close co-ordination between the University and MIBT. The University is represented on and chairs the Academic Advisory Committee of MIBT and is involved in aspects of course development and program evaluation. Studies at Diploma level use Deakin University's curricula and the University undertakes quality assurance in relation to the delivery of the Diplomas, enabling it to grant credit for these studies into courses at Deakin. Students may have every confidence that they are being prepared for university study during their time at MIBT.
I wish you every success in your studies and I hope to welcome you to Deakin University on the successful completion of your program of study at the Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology.
