The Diploma of Health Sciences is offered in association with Deakin University as an alternative pathway to undergraduate studies and is taught at Deakin University's Melbourne Campus at Burwood. The Diploma consists of Deakin's first year degree units and provides you with a pathway to second year of the relevant Bachelor degree at Deakin University. With increasing demand for health sciences and allied health in Australia and internationally, this exciting course aims to provide students with a sound knowledge and understanding of key aspects and determinates of the health of individuals, communities and populations. You will specialise in your preferred area when you begin your second year studies at Deakin University. To be awared the Diploma of Health Sciences you must complete and pass eight of the units listed in the table below. Completion of specific core units are required for entry into the relevant Deakin University bachelor degree. Core units are listed under the specific degrees - see Further Studies.
The duration of the Diploma ofHealth Sciencesis 3 trimesters (12 months). There is the option to fast track the course and complete it in two trimesters (8 months). Courses commence in March, June and October.
Teaching Methods and Assessment Instruction for all units is classroom based. Four hours of class contact per week are allocated to each unit. Some units also require additional time for lab sessions. Assessment for all units is ongoing and continuous, consisting of tests, assignments and case study analysis. Most units have a final three hour examination.
