Q : Are the Diploma courses equivalent to first year university? A : Yes. The Diploma courses are the same level as those for the relevant first year undergraduate programs offered by Deakin University. Q : What is the advantage of going to MIBT rather than doing first year University? A : The advantages for students are many. Classes are much smaller than the usual university lecture size. MIBT students have more class time per unit than university which allows more time to understand the course. You also have the choice of studying over two or three semesters in one calendar year. Q : Can I apply for FEE-HELP? A : Yes, MIBT has been granted the status as a recognised Higher Education Provider (HEP), allowing eligible students the opportunity to access the FEE-HELP loan scheme. Q : I am not an International student. Can I still study at MIBT? A : Yes. MIBT accepts both Australian/Permanent residents and International students. Q : Can older Australian students study the Certificate or Diploma program without going back to high school? A : Yes, if you can provide us with details of other acceptable qualifications or work experience, and you are over 20 years of age. Q : Do I have to complete the Certificate or Diploma program in two semesters (eight months)? A : No. While it is possible to complete either program in two semesters (eight months), some students opt to study over three semesters, to allow more time to concentrate on each individual unit. Q : Are MIBT courses Centrelink approved? A : Yes. Students undertaking a MIBT Certificate or Diploma course may apply for Youth Allowance, Austudy Payment, ABSTUDY and the Pensioner Education Supplement. Q : Are MIBT programs recognised by other Australian universities? A : Yes. Many Australian universities recognise the MIBT Diploma programs. Advanced standing is given on an individual case basis. Q : What if I fail some units - do I have to repeat the whole semester? A : No. Because of the flexible nature of the program it is possible to progress to new units whilst retaking those which have been failed. As three semesters of study can be completed in one calendar year, students who fail one or more units can get back 'on track' without loss of time. Q : I am really keen to develop my sport as far as I can and that means committing to training every morning and evening for the next few years. I'm willing to study at the same time but I don't see how I could fit it in - I'd miss too many classes wouldn't I? A : No. The "four hour block" teaching system means you either attend classes in the morning, that is, 8.30am-12.30pm or in the afternoon, that is, 1.30pm-5.30pm. This means each week you would come in for four blocks of four hours. Alternatively you can spread your study load over three semesters, which means you may only study three units per semester. This means each week you would come in for three blocks of four hours. Q : How many intake dates are there each year? A : There are three intakes per year - March, June and October. Q : What time are classes scheduled at MIBT? A : Teaching takes place Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 12.30pm and between 1.30pm and 5.30pm. Q: What is the maximum number of units that I can study each semester? A: Four units is the maximum for any student in any one semester. Q: Is there anyone available to assist me with finding suitable accommodation? A: Yes, you can contact the MIBT Student Adviser. Q : Does MIBT accept mature age applicants? A : Yes. MIBT accepts students who are aged 20 or over and have relevant experience or other appropriate qualifications. Q : What is the composition of the student population at MIBT? A : Students at MIBT are from many countries around the world. Most come from Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Malaysia, Thailand and China.
