English Admission Requirements

The language of instruction at MIBT is English.

International students must be able to demonstrate English language proficiency before being admitted to a course. This can be done by obtaining one of the results shown in the table below.

Do not meet the English requirements?

If you do not meet the English language requirements you may be eligible for a Mixed Program or may choose to enrol in an intensive English language course at Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI) to improve your English language proficiency.


Mixed Program

International students whose level of English language proficiency is IELTS 5.0 - with no band score below 4.5 (or equivalent) rather than the required IELTS 5.5, and who satisfy the minimum academic requirements, may be offered entry to the Mixed Program.

The duration of this program is three semesters (12 months). The first semester consists of AES100 Academic English Studies (15 hours per week) and two academic units from the Certificate course. The following two semesters consists of the remaining Certificate units. Advancement to the full academic program requires completion of AES100 Academic English Studies with a passing grade. On successful completion of the program students will be awarded the Certificate.

English Language Courses

If students need additional English study they may enrol in the Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI) to improve their English language proficiency. DUELI offers a wide range of English language courses, from beginners to advanced levels. DUELI is conveniently located on the same campus as MIBT.

MIBT can arrange full-time English tuition at DUELI if students need to improve their English level prior to beginning their academic study at MIBT. The table below indicates the weeks, dates and cost of English at DUELI held before each MIBT semester.

Academic Admission Requirements

Entry to the Certificate IV in University Foundation Studies requires the successful completion of Year 11 or equivalent.
